Dara Larson is one of the most extraordinary artists we have ever encountered, and we are honored to host a solo show of her amazing work. She has produced decades worth of captivating art in a variety of media, and is incredibly deserving of collectors beginning to seriously acquire her work.
The use of drawing is Larson's favorite problem solving method. Whether in digital art, scratch board, printmaking, book arts or handmade paper she draws upon making and erasing marks. The singular impulse that runs across the work of Larson is to intuitively use drawing as a method of discovery and expression. In a varied series of images and media Larson explores changing states of imaginary and real places that challenge values, beliefs and sensory experiences of everyday people.
A Time of Expectant Hopes
November 1 - 23, 2019
Event Opening: November 1, 6pm to 9pm
A Time of Expectant Hopes is a collaboration between Pete Railand and Jenna Valoe, including works inspired by 19th century union banners, suffragist banners, and modern day activist banners.
Railand is a printmaker, educator, bike rider, self-taught musician, full time dad and founding member of the Justseeds Artist Cooperative. His work, informed by historical and contemporary printmaking, comes from and is fueled by social and environmental justice activism, music, collaboration, travel, and time spent in forests.
Jenna Valoe is a self-taught textile artist with a B.A. in Cultural Anthropolgy from UW-Milwaukee. She is a daydreamer who attributes her innate fiber skills to the abundance of makers in her ancestry. Considering place-making, symbolism, and magic in daily life, she employs large color planes in unique combinations to capture the calm of skylines and the sacred geometry of nature.
